Today we are pleased to debut this feature, "Advice from an ex."
Since some colleagues will leave this week with buyouts and the rest wait to see what lies ahead with layoffs, we decided to solicit advice and tips from our dearly departed colleagues from the classes of 2004 and 2006. We hope to publish as many of these as we receive.
The messages that have arrived in the inbox thus far have come with hope and encouragement. The common theme is that journalists have skills that are valued in the workforce. The ability to craft words, edit and design are highly sought-after. Being unafraid to branch out from the comfort zone of newspapers into New Media and networking at all times are two other key refrains.
